Leadership
Principal - Michael Blount Jr.

At the heart of my leadership philosophy is the belief that all children are uniquely gifted and capable of achieving success far beyond what they can imagine, and that it is our responsibility as educators to help them discover and develop that greatness within. Prior to joining Richmond Public Schools as principal of Amelia Street School, I served as a principal in Hampton City Schools for 10 years—six years at Captain John Smith Elementary and four years at Benjamin Syms Middle School. In that role, I led schoolwide improvement efforts, coached teachers in evidence-based instructional practices, and fostered a student-centered culture of belonging, high expectations, and collective ownership. I also served as an assistant principal at Lakeland and King’s Fork High Schools in Suffolk, and began my career as a mathematics and computer science teacher in Norfolk and Newport News. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Hampton University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Regent University.

Assistant Principal- Dwyane C. Parker

It is my pleasure to join the administrative team and to serve you as one of the assistant principals of Amelia Street School. I believe school leaders practice servitude leadership and are commissioned to answer the call of service to educate and empower our scholars and serve the community. With more than fifteen years of experience in the mental health field and eleven years as an educator, I am privileged to have gained the capacity to promote a safe and inclusive learning environment that values the academic excellence and cultural awareness needs of ALL scholars. Here at Amelia Street School, I look forward to working with our scholars, parents, and community stakeholders to address the four core values of Consistent, Fair, Restorative, and Student-Centered!
I take pride in being a lifelong learner as I am currently enrolled in Regent University's Advanced Educational Leadership Doctoral program and completed all coursework for the School-Based Registered Play Therapy requirements from Virginia Commonwealth University. As a Trojan, I earned my Counseling of Education through Virginia State University and completed undergraduate studies at Virginia Union University.
